Alternatives to Surrendering

Choosing to surrender your pet is an incredibly difficult decision. The Humane Society of Kitchener Waterloo & Stratford Perth is working to put supports and programs in place to help people and pets stay together. We may be able to help you keep your pet at home or there may be alternative re-homing options to consider. Please review the following programs and resources before surrendering your pet.

Why are you thinking of surrendering your pet?

Other Rehoming Options

Sometimes it’s just not possible to keep a pet. Before surrendering, you could consider other re-homing options, like self re-homing.

The Humane Society of Kitchener Waterloo & Stratford Perth is proud to offer self re-homing services through a partnership with Home-To-Home Animal Adoption. This service helps us to keep pets our of shelters, and with their owners until they can find a direct home placement.

Check out Home-To-Home today for more information, or to register your pet for self re-homing.

Home-to-Home Testimonials

"I posted Luna on the Home-to-Home site and I had a response from a lovely couple. We met with them yesterday and spent 2 hours with them. They seemed like they would be a great fit for Luna. We went over today to see their home with Luna and they decided they would like to have her. Thank you so much for recommending the home to home site! It worked out great. They live a ten minute walk from us and said we can visit Luna when ever we would like to. As tough as this has been for me and my daughter we know she is with an amazing family and we are so grateful she will still continue to be in our lives. Thanks so much!"
