We ask interested applicants to review the volunteer requirements and available roles at HSKWSP listed, to ensure they are a good fit for our volunteer program. If an applicant finds a role that they are interested in, follow the application instructions. All volunteer candidates are asked to complete the online application form and volunteers matching the HSKWSP requirements and needs will be contacted.

HSKWSP relies heavily on volunteers to help care for our adoption animals. For this reason, some roles (such as Reception, Kennel Cleaning, Canine Companion, Feline TLC, Pet Pantry) require volunteers to commit to a weekly, 2-hour shift for a minimum of six months. All other roles require volunteers to commit to six consecutive months but are on an as-needed basis, such as our Street Team role.

For students 14 years of age or older, high school community service hours can be completed through our youth volunteer opportunities. From September-June we have limited opportunities for youth to volunteer as a Shelter Helper or Small Animal Kennel Cleaner. During July & August students can assist as a Counsellor In-training, supporting our summer camp program for a one-week commitment Monday-Friday, to obtain 40 hours of community service.

No, all volunteers must meet the minimum age requirement of 14 years old to volunteer at HSKWSP.

Yes, we accept co-op students from both high school and post-secondary programs. Students are asked to fill out an online volunteer application and indicated they are interested in completing a co-op or student placement. All students must attend an interview as part of the placement process.
